Hyaluron for a pretty smile
Nowadays, the meaning and importance of a nice, wrinkle-free face with a glowing white smile have increased to such an extent that many people count on so-called "beauty treatments". Dentists can help with tooth whitenings but from time to time some patients decide to ask for more help. White teeth are great and all but, for some, the overall look of the face can be ruined by even a single wrinkle.

Mint candy, chewing gum, or even ginger?
Haven't we all been in this situation before: You wake up, the sun is shining brightly through the window, you pleasurably stretch one last time before getting up and ... you suddenly notice a weird taste in your mouth. Tongue scraper to the rescue

Tongue scraper to the rescue
Nowadays, according to recent statistics, roughly 25% of the population living in the German-speaking realm suffer from bad breath. In some cases, bad breath is a result of gum inflammations such as periodontitis. Most frequently, however, the causes are malodorous sulfurs that develop as byproducts of the decomposition of food leftovers inside the mouth by bacteria. Since a large number of bacteria can accumulate on the tongue's surface in the form of a white film, the periodical and thorough cleaning of the tongue is recommended by an increasing number of dentists.

Don't forget to floss

Don't forget to floss
All of us want healthy teeth but what many of us forget is that frequent brushing by itself is not enough. Though the careful use of a toothbrush is an effective way to remove dental plaque, the bristles unfortunately only reach about 70% of any given tooth's surface area. The remaining 30% are located on the sides of teeth and since toothbrushes barely reach into embrasures (the spaces in between teeth), they do not effectively remove the pesky plaques that can accumulate in those places.

Fluorosis causes stains
Whether fluoride does or does not help one’s teeth is one of those topics that keep emerging over and over again in newspapers, magazines, and even on TV. Dentist visit at home

Dentist visit at home
Thanks to modern dentistry, many dental procedures that were once considered unrealistic, exceptionally difficult, or even impossible in the relatively recent past are nowadays considered routine. Nowadays, in the age of mobile technology, dentists can also opt to “go mobile” and fit virtually everything a modern dental practice needs into one to two special suitcases that they can take directly to their patients’ homes, upon request. This all sounds very futuristic but does it even make sense for a dental practice to “go mobile”?

Dental care during pregnancy
In Austria, people used to say ”every child costs a tooth“ and though this is nowadays no longer literally true, it is absolutely essential for future mothers to take extra good care of their teeth while they are expecting. The reason for this is that a pregnant woman undergoes significant hormonal change which leads to several key changes in her entire body including her oral cavity.

Smoking is bad for your teeth

Smoking is bad for your teeth
In our youth, probably most of us at least gave it a try, even if only to look “cool” and to not fall behind the circle of friends. Probably unsurprisingly, we’re talking about smoking here. For some of us, the calming “fag” is merely part of a temporary phase while, for others, it becomes a lasting habit or even an addiction. And those, who can or do not want to rid themselves of the habit of smoking, face not only constantly increasing cigarette prices and an array of potentially detrimental lung diseases, but also an increased likelihood of developing dental problems.

Antibiotic therapy versus periodontosis – Pros & Cons of the so-called Van-Winkelhoff-Cocktail
It is always a bad omen when the day starts with hurting gums. And when said pain is caused by periodontosis things could turn for the worse even more. Successful treatments for this kind of gum line inflammation can often be quite time consuming and require several dentist visits and a handful of medicines (incl. antibiotics).

Baby bottle tooth decay as a hidden danger

Baby bottle tooth decay as a hidden danger
We all love our children – even if they sometimes become annoying when it is time to brush their teeth and go to bed. In such moments, many parents resort to giving the small ones a bottle to calm them down with a yummy fruit juice or warm milk. In most cases, this tactic works wonders, but, unfortunately, too many parents are completely uninformed about the potentially detrimental consequences that this approach can have on their kids’ teeth ...

Thumbsucking can be damaging

Thumbsucking can be damaging
Only very few among us did not do it when we were small children. Whether to calm ourselves or to make falling asleep easier – sucking on our thumbs seemed to be the way to go. Unfortunately, all too often, we were also scolded by the parents who kept telling us that food and drinks – but not our thumbs – belong in our mouths. So why did they always make such a big deal out of thumbsucking and why do so many children start doing it early on in their lives in the first place? All good questions that deserve answers.

Chalk teeth causing trouble
So you wake up on a beautiful Saturday morning and are already looking forward to a relaxing day with the family. The sun is shining and it would be a colossal waste to spend one of the last warm fall days inside at home. Lets get the kids ready and their teeth brushed – but hold on a second: since when do milk teeth (i.e., temporary or baby teeth) come with brown-ish coloring?

Amalgam tooth fillings
Many of us can likely still remember it – the uncomfortable sound of the dentist’s drill followed by careful dabbing and the placement of a silver-colored filling. For a very long time, the amalgam filling was the gold standard for dentists to seal off decayed teeth after removing all damaged dental matter ...
